Description
This is a work in which two sets of speakers are placed in opposition to each other and are wired 180 out of phase. When pink noise is amplified a standing wave of sound occurs between the speakers. As one walks in the standing wave can be physically perceived. Both Sound in The Shape of A Pear and Sound Tunnel were created and exhibited in 1968 - 1969.

Sound in the Shape of a Pear was recently installed as part of “Looking at Tomorrow: Light and Language from The Panza Collection,” Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York.
Curated by Cathleen Chaffe and Douglas Dreishpoon. The installation was acquired by Count Giussepe Panza in 1987 and is now in the Guggenheim Collection.
